Summary: This book tells the story of Fredrick Douglas’ son. He was the first born child in a free land in Canada. The family lived in a town of runaway slaves from the south. However, after someone steals money from Elijah’s friend that was going to be used to buy his family out of slavery, Elijah returns to the United States in search for the thief. He witnesses the life that his mother and father ran away from and must have the strength and courage to make it back to Buxton.
