Summary: Before leaving an her annual summer trip to Wisconsin, Martha is greeted by the mother of a classmate who recently passed. Olive’s mother wishes to give Martha a journal that Olive wrote. Martha discovers that Olive looked up to her and although the two had never talked, they had had much in common. After an embarrassing moment while on her summer trip, Martha begins to find herself through Olive’s journal. She brings Olive’s mother home a bottle of ocean water to fulfill Olive’s dream of having the ocean. This would be a great book for older elementary students when talking about journal keeping.
